The first blog post on a new blog always feels a bit awkward. Of course I do want to say ‘hello’ and I want to welcome you all to reading my stories, but where do I begin? There’s a short introduction on the ‘about me‘ page that you may like to read and otherwise I’d say you will all get to know me along the way.
Blogging is not really new to me. I’ve been blogging since 2003 on various blogs, but right now I only have a personal blog besides this one. Although I have always written about my life, this blog will be far more detailed about a certain aspect of my life. A part of me that I have never really talked about: My weight. It’s kind of scary, but on the other hand I think writing about it will certainly help me to get through this journey.
In November 2012 I went to my family doctor to talk about my weight and the fact that I thought it was time to do something about it. I have had several screenings, meetings and I have seen a dietitian for six months. All those things were necessary before I was allowed to take the next step. At the moment I am preparing myself for the big moment, my gastric bypass surgery. I don’t have an exact date yet, but it will happen somewhere in April or May 2014. Next week I will meet my surgeon and see the hospital for the first time. In the next weeks I will write about the preparations. Hopefully I will get the exact date soon so I can start counting the days!
